PBOTD 1st November: Jean Slaughter Doty - Dark Horse

Another rather tenuous link to the National Horse Show today. Author Jean Slaughter Doty used to judge at the show. As you'll know if you've been following PBOTD I am very fond of Jean Slaughter Doty's books, and so as far as I'm concerned, that's excuse enough to include another one: Dark Horse (1983).

Heroine Abby has always loved riding, and now she gets the chance to compete. She has discovered that Sandy can jump, and so his owners ask her to show him. At first, it all seems absolutely effortless. They finish first time after time, and become celebrities. But then something goes terribly wrong: Sandy becomes violent and Abby's dream is over. Now that the horse world knows how well Abby can ride, she can, in theory, make it without Sandy, but she has some tough questions to answer.
